As of April 2016, EU travellers (that’s us) cannot enter the U.S. on an ESTA without an E-PASSPORT.

E-PASSPORTS contain a chip and have the following symbol on the front of your passport.

To be fair, most passports issued after 26 October 2016 should actually have the chip – but we just thought we’d flag just in case.

If you don’t have the chip, your best off applying for a lovely new passport as it’s cheaper and the fastest way (takes up to three weeks and costs £72.50).

If for some reason you don’t want to do that – you could also apply for tourism visa from U.S. embassy which would cost about £115 and could take between three to six weeks.

IF YOU’RE PASSPORT DOES NOT HAVE THAT CHIP – YOUR ESTA WILL NOT WORK.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you :)
